Emelia Ennin is an award-winning journalist and has been the recipient of three awards from the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
Awards
She was adjudged the Best Environmental Journalist of the year in 2010 by the GJA which she is a member and picked the same award two years later-2012- where she was also named winner of the Kwadwo Baah Wiredu best report on business, economic/financial reporting.
Emelia, popularly called Mimi, is a senior journalist with a lot of determination and a vision to be a world award winning journalist.
Work
She currently writes for Daily Graphic, focusing mainly on crime and general issues.
Mimi wrote business and environmental stories when she worked with the privately owned Western Publications Limited in Accra, publishers of Daily Guide and Business Guide newspapers between 2005 and 2013.
She is a member of the Foundation for Female Photojournalists, as well as the West African Water Sanitation and Hygiene Journalists Network (WASH-JN).
Education
She studied at the University of Ghana, for her first degree in sociology and linguistics and a postgraduate degree of Master of Arts in Organisational Leadership and Governance from the same university. She also has a diploma in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
Further studies have seen her partake in a two months training with InWent, a German capacity building organization in Business and Economic Reporting (April-June, 2008) as well as visit South Korea, Seoul in May 2007 as one of eight participants from Africa for the Next-Future Generation Leaders Programme.
She was also selected as one of 10 business journalists from developing countries for a poverty reduction programme at the Columbia University in New York, USA in 2009.
Mimi joined the Foundation for Female Photojournalists in 2003.
She is currently the Focal Person on Water for the West African Water Sanitation and Hygiene Journalists Network (WASH-JN), vice president of the Ghana Environmental Journalists Association, vice president of the Ghana Network of Journalists on Extractive and member of the Climate Changers.
Passion
Mimi is married to Edmund Abbey and has three children-two girls and a boy
She can speak and write a bit of conversational French.
Mimi loves her job and God and has a passion for advocating for the vulnerable in society, especially persons with disability, women and children.
