Harieth Maketa

Herieth Makweta is a health journalist working with Tanzania’s Mwananchi newspaper, a national paper published in the Swahili language. Her work has received widespread recognition for making health news accessible to Swahili audiences in Tanzania and has led to real-world impacts for citizens and healthcare providers in the country. Her reporting on dismal conditions at the Kinyeto health center in Singidaled to a response by the Tanzania Medical Stores Department which provided medical supplies to the center after a shortage was revealed.

Herieth is a recipient of multiple awards, including the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) Health Reporting Award in the print media category which she has won for three years in a row (2017, 2018 and 2019).
